Nan Andrews Amish, "The Big Woman with the Big Picture Perspective"
is a multidisciplinary futurist with strong expertise in healthcare
trends. Nan and her firm Big Picture Healthcare support healthcare executives
by developing profitable strategies given current industry trends, customer
needs and wants. Nan works side by side with executives in industries
other than healthcare to help them develop cost-effective benefit strategies
which increase employee health and productivity, AND improve talent
recruitment and retention. Her priority is her clients' bottom line,
which she increases by integrating powerful clinical and business strategies
with operational excellence and human performance dimensions.
In an industry where every single stakeholder is dissatisfied, the only
thing preventing total chaos is focus and vision. Big Picture Healthcare
helps its clients take unconventional steps which satisfy market and
stakeholder requirements, in spite of status quo wisdom to the contrary.
Typical programs to decrease benefit costs often include MORE benefits,
instead of fewer ones. This counter-intuitive strategy is a winner with
top employees and their families and recruiting talent alike, since
it provides more choice and control over their health, which studies
reveal is important. The cost advantage lies in the use of Asian and
European (alternative) best-in-class approaches to chronic disease,
which Western Medicine is unfortunately not particularly skilled at.
The cost savings can be as high as 20% of total health expenditures.
This often adds 1-2% to a company's bottom line.
Healthcare strategies may include contrarian positions, built more on
demographics than on current government reimbursement rates. Again,
these strategies are appreciated by care providers and patients, initially,
and gain acceptance by accountants and plans when the numbers come in
favorably.
A facilitative management consultant and business coach, Nan's roots
are in market research, market strategy, and finance with significant
time spent in the corporate training arena. Previously having held management
positions with Ernst & Young Management Consulting and Digital Equipment
Corporation, Nan is savvy about use of technology to achieve corporate
objectives.
A veteran speaker, she facilitates 50 leadership workshops and board
retreats a year. Nan also teaches Market Research, Healthcare Marketing
and Healthcare Economics at the University of San Francisco. With an
MBA from the University of Michigan, Nan knows not just corporations,
but associations as well. Nan is on the Board of Directors of National
Speakers Association/Northern California Chapter and was their 2002
Member of the Year. Nan is also Past President of a 1000-member Chapter
of the American Marketing Association.
Nan gave a presentation on the Future of Health Care at the World
Future Society in July 2003. One of her recent health care publications
is Healthcare Leadership: Stepping Up To The Plate, appearing
in the April 2003 edition of Financial Management Association's Executive
Newsletter.
